Lagos seals churches, businesses over environmental infractions

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency has taken a strong stand against violations of environmental laws in Lagos State by sealing off prayer centers and business premises throughout the area.

This action was confirmed in a statement by the Lagos State Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.

The enforcement operation conducted by LASEPA is part of the ongoing efforts to enforce environmental laws and safeguard public health, with establishments being shut down for disregarding regulations despite prior warnings.

Multiple establishments in Ikeja, Mushin, Gbagada, and Maryland were targeted during the enforcement operation aimed at ensuring compliance with environmental laws and protecting public health.

Some of the closed establishments include Vital Products Limited, A & P Nigeria Limited, Polite Anchorage and Suites, Redeemed Christian Church of God, Terrag Inn Apartment, Evening Class Guest House, Celestial Church of God, a printing press, Charley’s Bar, and 7th Heaven Hotel & Suites.

These establishments were found to be in violation of environmental regulations despite repeated warnings from LASEPA.

The General Manager of LASEPA reiterated the agency’s commitment to enforcing compliance with environmental laws and emphasized the importance of businesses recognizing their environmental responsibilities.

The agency’s zero-tolerance policy on non-compliance with environmental laws was underscored, with a call for businesses to work with the government towards a cleaner and more sustainable Lagos.
