BREAKING: Senate screens Kekere-Ekun for CJN post

The acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, recently underwent a screening process by the Senate to confirm her as the substantive CJN. This screening followed a letter from the President, which was presented during a plenary session. Kekere-Ekun emphasized the importance of concluding pre-election matters at the Court of Appeal and expressed a strong stance against corruption in the judiciary.

She highlighted her zero tolerance for corruption and vowed to address any form of malpractice. Kekere-Ekun, who assumed the role of acting Chief Justice in August, succeeding Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, articulated her commitment to upholding integrity and fairness in the judicial system.

The President’s letter to the Senate nominated Kudirat Kekere-Ekun for the position of Chief Justice of Nigeria, citing the constitutional provision that allows for such appointments. The nomination was forwarded for prompt consideration and approval by the Senate.

If confirmed, Justice Kekere-Ekun will make history as Nigeria’s 23rd substantive Chief Justice and the second female to hold this position. During the confirmation process, the Senate accommodated visitors, including Supreme Court judges and senior presidential aides on National Assembly matters.
