In a recent international friendly match at the Remo Stars Stadium, Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured a 2-0 victory over the Green Ladies of Algeria. The team’s captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, was the star of the game, scoring two goals in the first half.
Ajibade’s first goal came in the 24th minute when she skillfully lobbed the Algerian goalkeeper after receiving a long-range pass from midfield. She then extended the lead just before halftime with an impressive volley from outside the box.
The win was a positive start for the Falcons as they rebuild their team after a disappointing Olympic campaign. Despite dominating the match and creating several chances in the second half, they were unable to add to their lead.
The friendly match was the first of two games scheduled between the teams, with the second leg set to take place in Lagos. This match marked Nigeria’s return to Grade A friendlies on home soil, showcasing a mix of home-based and foreign-based players.
Coach Madugu, who took over the team recently, highlighted the importance of these friendlies in boosting the team’s confidence and morale after their Olympic performance. Ajibade’s performance further solidified her reputation as a key scorer for the Super Falcons.
Both teams are now preparing for the upcoming match in Lagos, where Nigeria will look to continue their winning streak and progression under Madugu’s leadership.
