The Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has pledged N100 million in support for the families affected by the recent boat tragedy in Gbajigbo village. The announcement was made during a visit to the Emir of Kaiama, where the governor expressed condolences and emphasized the need for safety measures in water travel.
The tragic incident, which claimed the lives of over 200 individuals, has deeply saddened the community. The governor stressed the importance of wearing life jackets and following safety protocols to prevent such accidents. He also mentioned the need for more oversight from the National Inland Waterways Authority.
Both the governor and the Emir of Kaiama expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and emphasized the importance of respecting safety rules. The community leader in Gbajigbo highlighted the lack of road infrastructure, making river travel the primary mode of transportation.
In response to the tragedy, Governor AbdulRazaq dispatched a delegation to offer support and condolences to the affected families. The delegation, led by the Speaker of the State Assembly, visited the community to assess the situation and provide assistance.
During the visit, the Speaker announced a cash donation to help with medical bills and promised further aid from the State Emergency Management Agency. The government officials present expressed their condolences and pledged support to the community during this difficult time.
