The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Dr George Akume, on Wednesday, assured Nigerians that the country’s security situation has improved.
Akume said the insurgent group, Boko Haram, has been significantly degraded and reduced to a weakened force due to sustained military operations and non-kinetic measures.
A statement by his media aide, Yomi Odunuga, said the SGF gave the assurance while receiving members of the Renewed Hope Fulbe Campaign Organisation at his office in Abuja.
According to him, terrorist activities had become “sporadic and ineffective,” reflecting the gains made by security agencies.
“The problems we are having are temporary problems that will certainly go away. Things are already beginning to pick up,” Akume said.
He added that while security has improved, the Federal Government is strengthening the nation’s defence architecture through the acquisition of more arms and ammunition, as well as improved operational strategies.
Akume expressed optimism that Nigeria’s current security challenges would soon be overcome.
During the visit, the RHFCO pledged support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in the 2027 general election.
The group’s National Coordinator, Abdullahi Tibbo, said the organisation would mobilise Fulani pastoralist communities across the country to support the administration.
“We hereby declare that the Fulbe are fully behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for a second term. We will galvanise our people to deliver massive support at the polls,” Tibbo stated.
He said the administration’s policies, including the student loan scheme, economic stabilisation measures, local government autonomy, and the creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, have benefited Fulbe communities.
The organisation described itself as a grassroots-driven platform committed to integrating Fulbe communities into Nigeria’s democratic and developmental processes, noting that it has established structures in over 20 states.
Akume commended the group’s commitment to national unity and urged it to intensify grassroots sensitisation, particularly encouraging citizens to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
He also assured the delegation that their requests, including recognition as a strategic mobilisation partner and provision of logistics support, would be considered.
Earlier, the RHFCO appealed for inclusion in government policy dialogue platforms, especially in livestock development programmes, and requested mobility support to enhance its outreach in remote pastoral communities.
The SGF reiterated the government’s commitment to engaging stakeholders, assuring that all submissions by the group would receive due attention.
