British-Nigerian MPs reflect on Black History Month

British Members of Parliament with Nigerian heritage have recently shared their perspectives on the significance of Black History Month, which took place in October.

During this commemorative month, politicians like Bayo Alaba, Labour MP for Southend East and Rochford, and Kate Osamor, Labour and Cooperative MP for Edmonton and Winchmore Hill, highlighted the importance of honoring key figures and events in the history of the African diaspora.

Alaba, in a social media post, mentioned his visit to Kultura Verse, a community group that promotes diversity through cultural activities, describing it as enriching and empowering.

He expressed the group’s mission to celebrate cultural heritage, reshape narratives, and empower the community while embracing inclusivity.

Osamor, in her reflections, stressed the need for authentic representation of narratives without distortion, urging the community to reclaim their history and share genuine stories that reflect their heritage and contributions.
