Dangote, PH refineries can meet local PMS demand – Delta commissioner

The Finance Commissioner of Delta State expressed concern over the continuous importation of Premium Motor Spirit into Nigeria despite the operational capacities of the Dangote and Port Harcourt refineries to meet local fuel consumption needs. Speaking at the 8th National Council on Hydrocarbons in Asaba, he questioned the discrepancies in reported PMS consumption figures and the lingering subsidy system despite its supposed removal. He highlighted the challenges arising from the Petroleum Industry Act’s implementation and urged for strategies to revitalize the hydrocarbons sector. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of addressing environmental issues in oil-producing communities like Ogoniland. The Oil and Gas Commissioner of Delta State echoed the need for effective implementation of the PIA to ensure socio-economic benefits for oil-rich communities, suggesting a review due to the lack of clarity on the role of state governments.
