Ekiti grants licences to 14 electricity firms

Ekiti State Governor, in a recent announcement, revealed that his administration has issued operational licenses to 14 electricity investors. These investors consist of three distribution companies, four generation companies, two mini-grid providers, and five meter asset providers. This move is aimed at enhancing power generation, distribution, and metering services within Ekiti.

The governor emphasized that this strategic initiative is crucial in improving the energy sector within the state. Currently, Ekiti receives a significantly lower amount of electricity from the national grid compared to the local demand. The goal is to achieve 130 megawatts through an efficient state grid system, reducing reliance on the national grid and promoting sustainable energy solutions managed locally.

This initiative is in alignment with the 2023 Electricity Law Enactment, empowering states to decentralize electricity markets and issue licenses to cater to local energy needs more effectively.
