A Nigerian forensic investigator and management consultant based in France has emphasized the importance of expanding the distribution of free Compressed Natural Gas conversion kits for commercial vehicles to include states with significant agricultural production. The investigator highlighted that the current initiative, aimed at promoting CNG as a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly fuel, needs to reach key agrarian states to address rising food prices driven by high transportation costs.
While the Federal Government is distributing CNG conversion kits to one million commercial vehicles in specific states and the Federal Capital Territory, the investigator pointed out that important agricultural states are not included in the program. These states, such as Benue, Niger, Taraba, Kebbi, and Plateau, play a crucial role in supplying grains, tubers, and vegetables across the country.
The investigator stressed that extending the CNG conversion program to these agricultural regions is essential to reduce the high cost of transporting agricultural produce and enhance food security nationwide. By prioritizing these states in the next phase of the rollout, the government can address transportation challenges and support the broader goal of ensuring food security.
Furthermore, the investigator urged the government to recognize the significance of rural farming regions and collaborate with local authorities, cooperatives, and transportation unions to promote CNG adoption. This collaboration would not only improve the efficiency of Nigeria’s agricultural supply chain but also align with the country’s efforts to diversify its economy beyond oil dependency.
