Father petitions Senate over daughter’s withheld UTME result

A concerned parent, Onyebuchi Obioha, has raised a complaint with the Senate regarding the delay in releasing his daughter Chizitere Obioha’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result. Obioha believes that the reason behind the non-release of the result is linked to the behavior of a supervisor from the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB).

According to the petition submitted through Senator Neda Imasuen, Obioha alleges that the JAMB supervisor in question acted inappropriately towards his 16-year-old daughter by providing her with his phone number after the exam. This action has led Obioha to suspect that the supervisor’s misconduct may be the cause of the “examination infraction” listed as the reason for withholding Chizitere’s result.

Obioha contests JAMB’s accusation of malpractice, asserting that his daughter was not involved in any wrongdoing during the exam. He has requested concrete evidence from JAMB, including a forensic audit of any alleged malpractice form and CCTV footage from the exam center to clarify the situation.

The petition details the sequence of events from the exam day to the subsequent communication with JAMB, highlighting the family’s efforts to seek clarity on the matter. Despite their persistent inquiries and the interactive session with JAMB officials, satisfactory answers have not been provided.

Obioha expresses concern that his daughter is being unfairly penalized for a crime she did not commit. He recounts an incident where his daughter was given a phone number by a man after the exam, raising suspicions of inappropriate behavior within the exam hall.

In response to the allegations, the individual identified as Mutiu Olayemi, denied the claims of offering his phone number to any candidate and affirmed his presence in Abuja to address JAMB’s queries. Olayemi also distanced himself from reporting the exam infraction against Chizitere, attributing the action to the Resident Monitor.

The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions is anticipated to review and address the concerns raised in the petition in the near future.
