The Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security in Nigeria, Dr. Aliyu Abdullahi, has restated the government’s unwavering commitment to improving food security within the country. During a recent visit to cluster farms in Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, the minister emphasized the importance of collaborative farming efforts in addressing food security challenges.
Expressing a hands-on approach, Dr. Abdullahi highlighted the ministry’s dedication to understanding farmers’ challenges firsthand and tailoring solutions to meet their specific needs. He stressed the significance of cluster farming in achieving food security, with the ultimate goal of ensuring that no individual goes hungry. The minister also outlined government initiatives aimed at supporting farmers in overcoming issues such as climate change, low yield, and productivity.
Acknowledging the collaboration with the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, Dr. Abdullahi underscored the importance of sustainable farming practices to ensure easy access to food for all citizens. During the visit, various crops like rice, guinea corn, and cowpeas were observed being cultivated, showcasing the ministry’s commitment to effective support programs and the promotion of dry-season farming.
In response to the ongoing food crisis, the minister affirmed the ministry’s determination to combat challenges faced by farmers and provide necessary assistance for their prosperity. Dr. Abdullahi praised the dedication and resilience of farmers in the Federal Capital Territory, commending their efforts while reaffirming the government’s commitment to advancing food security through enhanced cluster farming initiatives.
Additionally, the minister donated essential agricultural inputs such as 30 bags of fertilizers and spraying cans to support the activities of the cluster farms.
