I dumped acting career to care for Agbako — Daughter

Motunrayo ‘Iwalewa’ Charles, the daughter of the late renowned actor, Abdulsalam Sanyaolu, known as Charles Olumo and Agbako, shared that she had to put her acting career on hold to care for her father in his old age.

Agbako passed away on Thursday, October 31, at 101 years old at his Oniboku residence in Atan-Ota, Ogun State, and was laid to rest on the same day following Islamic customs.

In an interview, Iwalewa expressed her desire for the government to support the late actor’s family. She emphasized the sacrifice she made by pausing her acting endeavors for four years to look after her father, highlighting the importance of ensuring the family’s welfare and acknowledging the caregiver’s dedication.

Iwalewa clarified that her father peacefully passed away at home, contrary to rumors suggesting otherwise. She shared the tender moments leading to his passing, mentioning that he died in her embrace after she attended to his needs.

Reflecting on Agbako’s legacy, Iwalewa dismissed misconceptions about her father’s on-screen persona, emphasizing that his villainous roles did not reflect his true character. She recalled his humility, citing instances where he deliberately entered public transport last to avoid causing discomfort to passengers who recognized him from his acting roles.

Plans for commemorating Agbako’s life include concluding funeral rites on the seventh day, with a ceremony scheduled at the location where he celebrated his centenary birthday in Iju-Atan, Ogun State. Iwalewa also mentioned discussions with her father’s industry colleagues to honor his memory through a special event.
