Import duty: FG grants private jets owners 30-day extension

The decision by the Federal Government to ground 60 private jets in Nigeria due to unpaid import duties has been reversed. The Nigeria Customs Service had initially directed the Nigeria Airspace Management Authority to ground the jets, as many private jet owners were reportedly not paying the required duties. A verification exercise was conducted on private jet owners between June and July.

However, the jets have not been grounded yet. The acting Managing Director of NAMA, Umar Farouk, revealed that the NCS requested an additional 30-day period for debtors to settle their import duties. This extension was confirmed by the NCS spokesperson, Abdullah Maiwada, who stated that the verification exercise deadline has been extended to allow operators to regularize their import duties.
