The Dangote Petroleum Refinery recently clarified that it has not been authorized by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to supply Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to members of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria. This announcement came after the Petroleum Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria urged the refinery to disclose its PMS price, expressing concerns about the prolonged silence on the matter.
There have been reports of oil dealers experiencing difficulties in lifting petrol from the refinery despite assurances of having over 500 million liters of petrol in stock. Representatives from IPMAN and PETROAN have echoed these sentiments, highlighting challenges in accessing the product even after payment.
In response, the Dangote Group emphasized that they have not received any payments from IPMAN for refined petroleum products. They clarified that all payments were made through the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and that they have not been authorized to supply PMS to IPMAN directly.
The Dangote refinery also reiterated its capacity to meet the nation’s fuel demand, with the ability to load 2,900 trucks per day. They encouraged IPMAN to register with them and make direct payments for petroleum products to ensure smooth transactions.
Meanwhile, the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association has called on Dangote to announce the price of its PMS. They expressed surprise at Dangote’s statement regarding the refinery’s capacity to meet local petrol consumption needs and emphasized the importance of transparent pricing to attract buyers.
Additionally, the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria assured the public of sufficient petrol stocks and warned against panic buying. They emphasized the availability of products in their tanks and from suppliers like Dangote Refinery and NNPC Trading Limited, ensuring a steady supply of petroleum products.
MEMAN also shared data on the landing costs of petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel, stating that there is no anticipated scarcity in the market. They urged consumers not to engage in panic buying and assured continued improvement in supply efficiency and logistics optimization.
