Kano by-election signals APC 2027 dominance, says Yusuf

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, has described the outcome of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election as a litmus test for the All Progressives Congress’s anticipated victory in the 2027 general elections.

This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Sunday.

Rabiu Shuaibu of the APC was declared the winner of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election in Kano State by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The Returning Officer, Prof Umar Sani of Bayero University, Kano, announced the result following the completion of collation after a peaceful exercise across polling units.

According to the official results, Rabiu Shuaibu (APC) scored 35,356 votes, while Lawal Garba Haruna of Allied People’s Movement polled 268 votes, and Abubakar Yahaya Muhammad of Labour Party got 98 votes.

Yusuf, in the statement, said the massive turnout of voters and the peaceful conduct of the election clearly showed that the people remained firmly behind the APC and its programmes.

He noted that the election was conducted in a free, fair and credible manner, reflecting the genuine choice of the electorate.

The governor commended INEC for the successful conduct of the exercise and applauded security agencies for ensuring a peaceful atmosphere before, during and after the election.

According to him, the conduct and outcome of the election further reinforced public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process.

Yusuf congratulated the APC candidate on his victory and urged him to remain committed to the aspirations of the people through effective and purposeful representation.

He said the result of the election sent a strong message that the APC remained the dominant political force in Kano State and was well-positioned for greater victories in future elections.

The governor also mocked the Nigeria Democratic Congress for failing to field a candidate in the by-election, describing the party as a mushroom political movement with no visible grassroots structure.

He said the decision by the NDC to stay away from the contest was borne out of fear of inevitable defeat, knowing fully well that it lacked the support required to compete with the APC.

Yusuf maintained that the by-election had exposed the weakness of opposition elements in the state and further demonstrated the growing acceptance of the APC among the people.

He reassured citizens of his administration’s commitment to delivering more people-oriented projects and programmes across Kano State.

The governor also congratulated President Bola Tinubu and the National Chairman of the party, Prof Nantawe Yilwatda, for the success recorded in the recently concluded by-elections across the country.
