The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives has given the Kano State Government a 15-day ultimatum to address their demands or face industrial action. The decision was made during a State Administrative Council meeting after the government failed to respond to previous communications about issues affecting the members.
The ultimatum, signed by the association’s acting State Secretary and Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Sharada, was sent to the Kano State Head of Civil Service. If the demands are not met, all nurses and midwives in the state will go on strike by withdrawing services from clinical facilities and training institutions.
The strike is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, 2nd October, and last until 16th October 2024. The demands include a revised hazard allowance, harmonization of the Scheme of Service, and a 259% increase in the CONHESS salary for nurses.
Medical doctors in Kano State have also started an indefinite strike due to the government’s failure to meet their agreement. Dr. Anas Hassan, the secretary of the association in Kano, announced this during a press briefing.
