Kwara reverses ban on commercial vehicles from govt house road

In a recent development, the Kwara State Government has made changes to the vehicle restrictions on Ahmadu Bello Way. Following an initial ban on certain vehicle categories, the government has now allowed shuttle buses, taxis, and ride-hailing vehicles to operate on the route leading to the Government House.

The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, clarified the new directive, emphasizing that mini-shuttle buses, taxis, and ride-hailing services are now permitted on Ahmadu Bello Way. This decision aims to accommodate essential services in the area, such as the Government House, MDAs, and security installations.

However, tricycles, motorcycles, and heavy-duty trucks remain restricted from using the route due to security concerns and the necessity to uphold public order. The government had previously restricted various vehicles from accessing Ahmadu Bello Way and mandated the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Agency to enforce the restrictions promptly.

Violators of the restrictions may face fines of up to N50,000, as stated by Olododo. Ahmadu Bello Way, which has undergone recent rehabilitation, serves as a vital access route for commercial vehicles traveling to areas like Tanke, Fate, and River Basin within the Ilorin metropolis.

To notify the public about these changes, the Ministry of Works and Transport has begun installing restriction signage along the corridor, from Challenge through Ahmadu Bello Way.
