Lagos boat accident: Hope of recovery fades on two missing passengers

Local divers and emergency responders are still searching for the two missing passengers from a tragic boat accident that took place on Monday, October 7, 2024, in Imore town, Lagos State.

Reports indicate that a boat named “Only God 13” collided with a wooden boat, resulting in injuries to five passengers from the wooden boat while all 15 passengers on the “Only God 13” were rescued.

Three bodies have been recovered so far, with the search and rescue operation ongoing. Unfortunately, the two missing passengers have not been found despite extensive efforts.

The manager of the “Only God 13” ferry has been arrested by the National Inland Waterways Authority for negligence and failure to comply with safety regulations. The agency cited obstructed vision and improper navigation procedures as contributing factors to the accident.

Legal actions are being pursued, and investigations are ongoing to determine further accountability and potential charges for the captain of the boat.
