Lagos mordernises interstate travel with digital passenger manifests, park accreditation

The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has launched a new system to accredit interstate parks and digitize passenger manifests. The initiative aims to improve safety, reliability, and efficiency in interstate travel within the state. The state Commissioner for Transportation made this announcement at a news conference in Lagos.

The program is designed to standardize interstate parks and modernize the passenger manifest system. Moving from a paper-based approach to a digital platform will enhance the capture, storage, and accessibility of passenger information in real-time, ensuring quick access to accurate data in case of emergencies.

Accreditation for interstate parks will be granted to those meeting safety and service standards set by the ministry. Certified parks will display official signage, assuring passengers of recognized and trusted facilities. Unregulated parks will need to make improvements to meet the required standards, promoting a safer travel experience for all.

The transition to a digital manifest system will centralize passenger information, ensuring data security and accessibility for authorities. The initiative will benefit passengers with increased safety and convenience, while accredited park operators will enhance their reputation and attract more customers. The project marks a crucial step in modernizing the transportation sector in Lagos.

Stakeholder meetings and a pilot program at Ojota are underway, with ongoing efforts to regulate unaccredited parks. The aim is to bring order to interstate travel, track movements in and out of Lagos, and enhance safety and security within the state.

Agents will manage the manifest process at parks, mapping information to driver number plates to improve safety and trust with the government. Through park accreditation, unregulated parks will be phased out, leading to a more organized and secure transport system.

The National Union of Road Transport Workers in Lagos State expressed support for the transition from analog to digital operations, emphasizing the positive impact on the transport system in the state.
