LASG empowers 100 women with skills, equipment

The Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in Lagos State recently empowered around 100 women from the Eti-Osa East Local Council Development Area with essential skills and business tools to boost their financial independence and self-reliance.

The initiative, named “Life Skills Economic Empowerment Programme for Residents of Eti-Osa East,” provided training in various vocational skills such as makeup application, headgear tying, catering, throw pillow creation, fabric stoning and embellishment, and soap-making. Each participant received a start-up pack with the necessary equipment to kickstart their businesses from home.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Bolaji Dada, highlighted the program’s aim to promote entrepreneurship among women by equipping them with skills and tools for economic success. The Director of the Women’s Department, Olufunke Shyllon, representing the commissioner, emphasized the new opportunities this training brings for the beneficiaries.

Dada acknowledged the challenges women face in the economic landscape and encouraged the beneficiaries to apply the acquired skills practically for sustainable income generation. She expressed appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his dedication to poverty eradication and women empowerment in the state.

The Chairman of Eti-Osa East LCDA, John Ogundare, recognized the initiative’s importance in advancing the community’s urbanization. He pledged to organize empowerment programs regularly to support economic growth and community well-being. Ogundare also committed to assisting the beneficiaries by placing orders for their products and creating connections with potential clients.

A beneficiary, Aisha Olayiwola, aged 19, shared her enthusiasm for learning valuable skills to support herself financially.
