Makinde canvasses investment in science education

Governor Seyi Makinde emphasized the importance of investing in science and technology for Nigeria to keep up with the modern world. He highlighted the need for both federal and state governments to prioritize innovation and education to ensure the country’s competitiveness globally. Makinde pointed out that nations like South Korea excel in technology due to their emphasis on education and innovation.

He also stressed the significance of self-reliance by effectively utilizing local resources and talents while engaging on a global scale. Makinde called for increased investment in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Innovation to drive transformation in the country. He noted challenges such as youth unemployment, reliance on foreign technologies, and underutilization of human and natural resources hindering Nigeria’s progress.

During the convocation, the High Commissioner of Namibia to Nigeria and ECOWAS commended the graduates as future leaders capable of shaping the country’s future positively. He highlighted the transformative power of education and encouraged graduates to make meaningful contributions to society. The Pro-Chancellor of the University appealed to the Federal Government to reconsider its position on the Tertiary Education Fund to support the growth of private universities.

The Vice Chancellor of the university announced the successful graduation of 26 students, with distinctions across various classes. The founder of the institution reflected on its journey and highlighted its focus on producing graduates who can become job creators.
