A former member of the House of Representatives, Babatunde Oduyoye, expressed that Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, will not enter the 2027 presidential race unexpectedly. Oduyoye, who previously served as Makinde’s Special Adviser on Strategy and Political Matters, mentioned during an interview in Ibadan that Makinde is a strategic thinker and would carefully plan before making such a significant decision. According to Oduyoye, Makinde has not taken the necessary steps that would indicate a genuine interest in running for president. He suggested that the speculations about Makinde’s presidential ambition might be driven by supporters who wish to see him progress politically. Oduyoye emphasized that Makinde has not made a final decision yet, as he has not undertaken his usual strategic actions when contemplating major political steps. He clarified that despite reports circulating about Makinde’s alleged presidential ambition, there has been no direct quote from the governor confirming such intentions. Oduyoye affirmed his confidence that Makinde, known for embracing challenges, would not pursue the presidency through indirect means and would act decisively when the time is right.
