My brother’s injuries showed police tortured him to death– Sibling of man who died in Kwara cell

Ismail Jimoh, the elder brother of the late Abdulqadir Jimoh, a poultry farmer who passed away in a police cell in Kwara State, shared details about his brother’s arrest and subsequent death. Abdulqadir was a businessman involved in animal trading and was employed at Olam Poultry Farm in Offa, Kwara State. Ismail recounted the events leading to Abdulqadir’s arrest by the police, mentioning a debt he needed to pay.

After Abdulqadir’s arrest, Ismail’s mother and family members attempted to secure his release but were met with obstacles from the police. Eventually, they were informed of Abdulqadir’s alleged suicide in the police cell, which raised suspicions due to inconsistencies observed by the family at the scene.

The family’s quest for justice included requests for an autopsy to determine the cause of Abdulqadir’s death. However, they expressed concerns about potential manipulation of the autopsy results by the police officers involved. Despite assurances from higher authorities, including the Inspector General of Police, the family remained skeptical about the transparency of the investigation.

The family demanded a fair and impartial autopsy conducted in a neutral setting, with the presence of unbiased police officers. They sought accountability for those responsible for Abdulqadir’s death and emphasized the importance of timely justice to prevent escalation of tensions in the community.
