Nigerian healthtech startup MDaaS begins Francophone expansion with Cameroon

In Nigeria, MDaaS, a healthcare startup operating 16 diagnostic clinics, has expanded into Cameroon, its first venture into Francophone Africa. The move is part of the company’s strategy to diversify its operations and reduce exposure to currency fluctuations.

Established in 2017, MDaaS offers diagnostic services such as X-rays, ultrasounds, and lab tests through its clinics and affiliate partnerships across Nigeria. The startup emphasizes its technology-driven approach, enabling efficient coordination and scalability in service delivery.

Cameroon was chosen as the entry point into Francophone Africa due to its bilingual environment and the high demand for healthcare services, particularly outside the main city centers. MDaaS aims to address service inefficiencies observed during its market research in Cameroon by leveraging its successful operational model from Nigeria.

The startup’s expansion aligns with a trend among Nigerian startups seeking opportunities beyond the local market, driven by economic factors like currency devaluation. MDaaS plans to leverage its experience in Nigeria to replicate its success in Cameroon and further expand its presence in West Africa.

MDaaS also operates a digital health platform called Sentinel, focusing on preventive care, in addition to its diagnostic services. The company’s growth and impact are attributed to its innovative technology, which streamlines processes and enhances patient experience.

Having secured funding from local investors, MDaaS embarked on its expansion journey to fulfill its mission of providing accessible healthcare solutions across Africa. The startup is committed to building a sustainable healthcare ecosystem that caters to the needs of diverse communities on the continent.
