Osun to begin payment of new minimum wage December 1

The Osun State Government has officially announced the commencement of the implementation of the newly approved minimum wage for civil servants, set at N75,554.20. The wage increase will take effect starting December 1, 2024, following successful negotiations with organized labor unions.

In addition to the minimum wage adjustment, all pensioners will receive an across-the-board increase of N25,000. Arrears for the new wage structure will be included in the November salaries of workers. The decision to raise wages demonstrates the state government’s commitment to ensuring a motivated and content workforce under Governor Ademola Adeleke’s leadership.

During the formal agreement signing ceremony, Osun’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment emphasized the administration’s dedication to prioritizing the welfare of workers and retirees. Representatives from the Trade Union Congress and Nigeria Labour Congress were present and commended the peaceful resolution of negotiations.

The Deputy Governor of Osun State praised Governor Adeleke’s compassionate leadership in addressing labor-related issues and urged workers to reciprocate by enhancing productivity. A circular issued by the Head of Service unveiled further details on the new wage structure and improved pension benefits for retirees.

The circular highlighted that the wage increase resulted from exhaustive negotiations considering factors like revenue availability, debt obligations, and sustainability. The effective date for the new minimum wage is December 1, 2024, with one month’s arrears to be paid. The government urged all public servants to increase service delivery and revenue generation in response to the wage adjustments.
