Oyo college’s NBTE approval intimidates those inciting students — Proprietor

The Proprietor of Iseyin College of Science and Health Technology in Oyo State, Sunday Owoseni, on Thursday, alleged that some disgruntled elements working with illegal private colleges of health and nursing in the state are inciting students against the management over the approval of the institution.

Owoseni made this allegation in a statement released in Ibadan, the state capital,.

He described the listing of the college and the state College of Science Health and Technology, Eleyele, Ibadan as the only two institutions approved by the National Board for Technical Education as a threat to those without the approval in the state.

The proprietor explained that some of those inciting the students were formerly his staff members who could not withstand the call for accountability, discipline and due diligence in the running of the college and had to run to some newly created colleges and plant acrimony in their former students against the authority of the college.

It will be recalled that a group, Campaign For Better Public Health had, on Friday, April 3, 2026, called on the state Ministry of Education and the NBTE to urgently launch investigation into the proliferation of illegal colleges of health in the state.

The body claimed that apart from the state College of Health Science and Technology, Eleyele, in Ibadan and Iseyin College of Science and Health Technology, no other institution is in the approved list of NBTE till date in the state.

The group made this known in a statement released by its Director of Public Communication, Anthony Ojo in Ibadan.

However, Owoseni in a statement, on Thursday, described what he called an unwarranted protest by the students over the fear of authenticity of their certificates at the end of their programmes as not needed, adding that simple engagement with the school authorities would have assured them of true pictures of things.

“The protest came from incitement from some individuals that we sacked when their attitudes negated the discipline and diligence that our institution stands for, we have accredited course and some courses that we are progressively working on obtaining their accreditation.

“There has never been any time we do not engage our students on developments around the courses that need accreditation. We are working day and night on that, we also engaged them to start early in writing professional courses related to their programme. So, they have no reason to go to the street and protest.

“We are aware some disgruntled element working with illegal private colleges of health and nursing in the state are inciting students against the management over the approval of the institution

“Like I said earlier, we know where this is coming from, our former staff members that were sacked teamed up with a private college that was mentioned among some colleges that were recently accused of not having NBTE approval created the blackmail and contacted some of our students to riot,” he said.

He, therefore, appreciated the efforts of the Executive Chairman of Iseyin Local Government, Rasaq Fadiran, the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Oyebola, the traditional council, the security agencies and other stakeholders that waded into the matter for amicable resolution.

Owoseni added that the institution is saddled not with pecuniary gain in mind, but for the growth and development of education in Iseyin and the state in general.
