PDP ward chair docked for alleged cyberstalking, defamation

The Ward Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, recently appeared before the Federal High Court in Asaba to face charges related to cyberstalking and defamation. The chairman, Illoba Obata, who also serves as the PDP Ward 2 Chairman in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area, was arrested by the police following allegations of cyberstalking.

The charges, filed under the Cyber Crimes Act 2015 and the Criminal Code Act, accuse Obata of engaging in a campaign to harass and defame the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku. One of the key allegations against Obata is the creation and sharing of a video on social media that purportedly shows a suspect facing murder charges being mistreated at the Obi’s palace, with the aim to ridicule and tarnish the reputations of the Obi and others.

The charge sheet also includes accusations of conspiracy to commit cyberstalking and conspiracy to defame the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku. The court granted Obata bail, but he is yet to fulfill all the bail conditions.
