A recent operation by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control uncovered a warehouse in Oke-Afa, Okota, Lagos, containing unregistered and expired supermarket items.
Officials acted on a tip-off and found operators unloading a 20ft container of unregistered carbonated drinks at the facility. Further inspection revealed 14 rooms filled with expired and unregistered products, some contaminated by rats due to poor storage conditions.
The warehouse has been sealed, and all activities suspended for a thorough investigation. The agency has requested the management to provide necessary documentation, including the Global Listing for Supermarket Items (GLSI) certificate.
NAFDAC issued a caution about the dangers of unregulated products, especially as the holiday season approaches. Consumers are advised to be cautious, verify product authenticity, and report any suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.
