The Anambra State Police Command recently apprehended a couple, a 36-year-old man, and a 27-year-old woman, for their involvement in sending threatening messages and attempting to abduct individuals for ransom. The suspects were caught by a joint security force, including the police and vigilante groups, based on technology-driven information. They confessed to their crimes and admitted to destroying some of the sim cards used in the acts.
The police statement highlighted that the couple would send threats via text messages, demanding ransom under the threat of abduction or murder. The Commissioner of Police has ordered the case to be transferred to the anti-kidnapping/robbery squad for further investigation, with the intention of prosecuting the suspects in court upon completion of the inquiries.
Furthermore, the police are also investigating a related incident involving a victim escaping abduction by an alleged security operative, based on a voice note report received. The authorities are actively working to uncover the identities of the suspects and prevent similar incidents from happening again.
