Police hunt Ogun woman for dumping child outside clinic

The police in Ogun State are currently searching for an unidentified woman who allegedly abandoned an infant in front of Blessed Clinic in Oru Ijebu, Ijebu North Local Government Area. The incident occurred around 6:45 a.m. on a Friday, just days after the child was born. The baby, believed to be around 40 days old, was discovered in front of the clinic and taken in for medical care by the clinic owner.

The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the matter and is working to identify those responsible for abandoning the child. The baby is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. Unfortunately, incidents of newborns being abandoned on the streets and in dumpsites are not uncommon in Nigeria.

In a separate case, in 2022, a baby girl was abandoned in Ogun State and later taken into police custody after being rejected by orphanages. Another incident in January 2024 involved a 30-year-old mother attempting to drown her five-month-old baby in a river, but a nearby man intervened and rescued the child.
