The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Adamu-Bakori, has assured the public that discipline, integrity, and respect for human rights will guide the operations of the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, on Sunday in Kano.
“In compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, and pursuant to the Nigeria Police Act 2020, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu-Bakori, formally established the VCRU in Kano State.
“The VCRU is a specialised, intelligence-driven tactical unit designed to decisively address armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent crimes across the state,” he said.
He said the establishment of the unit underscored the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to professional, effective, and accountable policing that earns public trust.
“All officers deployed to the unit have undergone rigorous vetting and mandatory human rights and professional conduct training in line with global best practices,” he stressed.
He said the unit has been mandated to respond to, suppress, investigate, and prosecute all cases of armed robbery, kidnapping, and related violent crimes in the state through strictly intelligence-driven approaches.
The PPRO further revealed that a VCRU State Media Liaison Officer had been appointed, and a dedicated public complaints hotline and physical complaints desk would be established at the VCRU operational base and publicised for easy access.
“All complaints will be acknowledged and responded to within 24 hours,” he assured.
Haruna-Kiyawa quoted the CP as urging the public to support the unit by providing timely and credible information on violent crimes.
He added that the command remained committed to transparency and would provide regular updates on the activities and achievements of the VCRU.
“The VCRU represents our renewed commitment to intelligence-led, professional policing that respects the rights of all citizens.
“It is indeed a new dawn in crime prevention, management, and control.
“I take personal responsibility for its conduct, performance, and public image.
“I call on all residents of Kano State to cooperate with and support the VCRU. Together, we will make Kano safer,” he pleaded.
