Port Harcourt Refinery admits scaling down operations for upgrade

The Port Harcourt Refining Company has clarified that their operations were not completely stopped but rather reduced to facilitate necessary improvements at the facility. The Executive Director of Operations, Moyi Maidunama, explained during a refinery tour that the temporary reduction was essential for addressing technical issues and boosting capacity.

Maidunama mentioned that the operations were scaled down to implement required enhancements and that the situation was being managed efficiently. He assured that product distribution was ongoing, with trucks loading refined products as usual.

The Terminal Manager at Port Harcourt Depot, Worlu Joel, confirmed the commencement of product distribution, including Premium Motor Spirit, kerosene, and diesel. However, he expressed concerns about the low turnout of tanker drivers despite surplus products and operational loading arms being available.

Joel highlighted that the depot operates with 11 loading bays, but only three are currently in use due to their high efficiency. Each bay can load three trucks in just 15 minutes, ensuring quick evacuation if needed.

Managing Director Ibrahim Onoja emphasized the extensive upgrades made at the refinery to enhance efficiency and reliability. He mentioned the replacement of equipment such as pumps, instrumentation, and cables, marking a significant upgrade for the facility.

The PHRC team reaffirmed their dedication to consistent product distribution while striving to improve the refinery’s overall operations through ongoing enhancements.
