The government of Lagos State has announced a traffic diversion plan for the Marine Bridge to allow for urgent maintenance work. The repairs are set to commence on December 4, 2024, and are expected to last until February 25, 2025. This diversion is necessary for the Federal Ministry of Works to carry out rehabilitation work on specific sections of the bridge.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes during this maintenance period to help manage traffic flow and reduce inconvenience. For those traveling from Apapa to Lagos Island, suggested routes include using the Costain Roundabout to access Eko Bridge or taking the Ijora 7up route via the Marine Bridge to reach Lagos Island.
Similarly, motorists heading from Apapa towards Ijora Causeway/Iddo can use the Costain Roundabout to access Eko Bridge or opt for the Ijora 7up route via the Marine Bridge to reach Ijora Causeway. Traffic from Costain Roundabout to Apapa will not be affected by this diversion.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, has requested patience and cooperation from motorists during this period. He emphasized that the diversion is part of a broader traffic management strategy to minimize disruptions caused by the maintenance work. The government remains committed to providing updates and assistance to lessen the impact on road users.
Various road repair projects throughout the year have led to traffic diversions in different parts of the city. Previously, an eight-week traffic diversion was implemented in September for emergency repairs on the Eko Bridge by the Federal Ministry of Works. This diversion involved phased closures to accommodate the repair schedule.
