In a recent session, the House of Representatives called on the Federal Government to allocate funds in the upcoming 2025 budget for the repair of the road leading to the location of the Bellview air crash. This would allow families to honor their lost loved ones who perished in the tragic incident. The decision came after a motion presented by a member representing Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency, Ogun State, emphasizing the importance of rehabilitating the road and bridges that lead to the site of the Bellview Boeing 737-200 Airline Flight 210 crash.
The devastating event, which occurred on October 22, 2005, claimed the lives of all 117 passengers on board the Bellview Airlines Flight 210. The motion highlighted that the current state of the road and bridges at Awela and Alapako Rivers impedes families from visiting and paying respects at the crash site.
The House of Representatives directed relevant committees to include provisions in the 2025 budget to address the infrastructure challenges hindering families from accessing the site. Additionally, the Ecological Project Office, under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, was tasked with immediate action to develop the road, conduct dredging and channelization, and reconstruct bridges at Awela and Alapako Rivers to facilitate families’ visits to the site for paying their respects.
