Recently, it was reported that Moscow has taken control of the mining hub of Selydove in eastern Ukraine. The Kremlin’s forces are advancing quickly in the region, causing Ukrainian troops to retreat and seek more support from the West.
Russia has also claimed to have captured several other settlements in the Donetsk region, including Bogoyavlenka, Girnyk, and Katerynivka. These actions are part of a series of advances made by Russian forces since February, with significant gains in territory.
As the conflict intensifies, Ukraine is facing manpower shortages and is discussing ways to bolster its military. The country plans to recruit an additional 160,000 people to strengthen its forces. Meanwhile, concerns have been raised about North Korea’s involvement in aiding Russia, with reports of thousands of North Korean troops being sent to support the offensive.
The situation has escalated to an international level, with Ukraine and South Korea discussing security cooperation in response to North Korean involvement. High-ranking officials from both countries are set to meet to address the growing concerns over military cooperation between Russia and North Korea.
Despite the escalating tensions, Moscow has not denied the presence of North Korean troops on its soil. Additionally, Russia has announced nuclear drills overseen by President Putin, adding to the already heightened sense of urgency in the region.
The conflict has taken a deadly turn, with Russian aerial bombardments resulting in civilian casualties in various Ukrainian cities. The recent attacks in Kharkiv and other regions have caused significant destruction and loss of life, further escalating the humanitarian crisis in the area.
