SERAP demands probe of humanitarian ministry’s ‘missing’ N57bn

A call has been made by a rights group for an investigation into allegations of mismanagement of public funds in the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. The group highlighted various instances of financial discrepancies revealed in the 2021 Auditor-General’s report.

The allegations include funds allocated for N-Power volunteers not reaching beneficiaries, payments made for unexecuted projects, and money spent without proper approval or documentation. The group emphasized the importance of holding those responsible accountable and recovering any missing funds for the benefit of the people.

The rights group stressed the need for transparency and urged for a halt on government borrowing to address the country’s debt crisis. Ensuring proper use of public funds is crucial for the well-being of current and future generations.
