Sokoto approves N200,000 monthly allowance for principals

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, has given the green light for a maintenance allowance of N200,000 to be allocated to principals of each secondary school within the state. The governor disclosed this during the Sokoto State 2025 Citizens Budget Discussion at the Sultan Abubakar Maccido Institute of Quranic and General Studies.

During the event, a former deputy governor of the state, Chiso Abdullahi, proposed the allocation of funds to school principals for addressing immediate maintenance needs without bureaucratic delays. The approved amount aims to aid in the timely repair of minor damages to school infrastructure.

In response, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Abubakar Bawa, confirmed the governor’s approval of N200,000 monthly for each school principal across the 23 local government areas, starting from January 2025. Additionally, the governor directed the state commissioner for local government affairs to review and adjust the allowances of traditional rulers to align with current economic conditions, following a request made by a district head during the discussion.
