Osun paid N47bn gratuities in two years—Adeleke

The current Governor of Osun State shared that his administration has allocated more than N47 billion in gratuities to retirees since taking office in November 2022. This announcement was made in Osogbo, the state capital, during a ceremony where bond certificates worth N1.9 billion were presented to contributory pensioners from the state and local governments. The Governor highlighted his government’s commitment to addressing issues faced by pensioners and the pension system.

He contrasted the payments made by the previous administrations, stating that the total payment during the 12-year tenure of the past two administrations was N34,408,087,059.77. In comparison, his administration has paid a total of N22,671,217,893.24 for state pensions in the last two years, with an additional N25 billion for local government pensions, totaling over N47 billion in just two years. This marks a significant increase compared to the payments made by the former APC administration.

Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his dedication to resolving both individual and systemic issues within the pension sector. He reassured retirees that their well-being would remain a top priority and that his administration would uphold integrity in pension management. Additionally, plans are in progress to streamline pension operations to ensure retirees receive timely and respectful treatment.
