Recently, the ongoing repair works on the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kV line were disrupted by vandals, according to the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
The attack, which took place on November 19, 2024, targeted Towers 29 to 31, resulting in the theft of about one-third of the conductor.
This incident marks the third act of vandalism on the same transmission line within four months.
The TCN General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, urged the public to assist the company in combating criminal activities aimed at power infrastructure in a statement released in Abuja.
Following the attack, repairs have commenced after an inspection by the General Manager of the Port Harcourt Region, Emmanuel Akpa, to assess the damage.
Local vigilantes have been deployed at Ula Ikata in Ahoada East Local Government Area to secure the site during the repair process.
Efforts are underway to replace the stolen conductor, and despite challenges like difficult terrain and flooding, the restringing of the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kV line is nearly 85% complete.
In a separate incident earlier in November, vandals damaged transmission towers in the Okada and Ofosu communities along the 330kV Benin-Egbin and Benin-Omotosho transmission lines, affecting a total of 31 towers.
