Three female Inspectors from the Rivers State Police Command have been apprehended on charges of extorting motorists in the Rumuokoro area of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. The arrest followed public complaints circulating on social media about the officers’ activities in the region. The arrest took place on Tuesday during a monitoring patrol conducted by the Commissioner of Police team. The spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, announced the arrest in a statement released in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
Iringe-Koko revealed that the officers’ illicit actions were recorded on video by a mobile phone, providing concrete proof of their misconduct. She criticized the officers’ behavior as unprofessional, especially noting that they were not in uniform during the incident. The arrested officers, identified as Inspector Sarah Anendei, Inspector Caroline Promise, and Inspector Christiana Jatau, are currently in custody awaiting appropriate disciplinary actions.
The police operation, which occurred under the Rumuokoro Flyover around 3 pm, led to the apprehension of the three officers engaging in corrupt practices against motorists. Inspectors Caroline Promise and Christiana Jatau were found to be acting unprofessionally while not in uniform, further violating police standards. The authorities swiftly responded by conducting on-site investigations, leading to the recovery of the extorted money from the officers. The Rivers State Police Command emphasizes its dedication to upholding professional integrity and ensuring accountability for any personnel found breaching service principles.
