During a funeral service in Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit-Ubium Local Government Area, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, fondly remembered his late wife and First Lady, Patience, as his anchor. He expressed his commitment to keeping her memory alive and never referring to her in the past tense. Reflecting on their 40-year journey together, he expressed gratitude for the blessings they shared and found comfort in their children and grandchildren.
The late First Lady was praised for her contributions to humanity by Nana, the wife of Vice President Kashim Shettima, who encouraged the family to uphold her legacy. Rev. Simeon Afolabi delivered a heartfelt homily, emphasizing the impact loved ones have on the world even after they pass away.
The funeral service was attended by various dignitaries, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, among others, who came to pay their respects. The family had formally announced the burial arrangements, with the service scheduled to take place on November 29, 2024, in Ikot Ekpene Udo. The late First Lady’s death had been reported on September 26, 2024.
