The political party, All Progressives Congress, recently released the official timetable for the 2024 Rivers State Elective Congresses, scheduled to start on November 2. This information was shared by the National Organising Secretary of the APC, Malam Suleiman Argungu. The party had previously established a caretaker committee, led by Chief Tony Okocha, to oversee the election of new leadership for the state chapter after the dissolution of the Beke-led executives. Despite a court ruling reinstating the Beke-led executives, the National Working Committee of the APC has decided to uphold the caretaker committee, asserting that court decisions do not influence party matters.
In the recent statement, the APC disclosed that individuals aspiring for chairmanship and vice chairmanship positions can obtain Nomination and Expression of Interest forms for N3m and N2.5m, respectively. For local government chairmanship positions, the form is priced at N100,000. The party also specified that female aspirants, Persons Living with Disabilities, and youths aged 25 to 40 are eligible for discounts on the forms.
The statement further outlined that only financial members who have paid membership dues up to three months before the delegate congress will be eligible to vote at the Ward Congress. Interested candidates can purchase the Nomination and Expression of Interest forms at the Directorate of the Organisation at the national headquarters of the APC in Abuja.
According to the updated timetable, the screening and appeal committee composition will occur on October 18, with the deadline for form submission set for October 21. The congress to elect state executive council members is scheduled for November 9.
