A resident of Bauchi State, Muhammad Ibrahim, recently made a tough decision to call off his wedding with his fiancée, Fatima Abdulqadir. This decision came after medical tests revealed that both of them were carriers of the AS genotype, putting any potential offspring at risk of sickle cell disease. Ibrahim, a Zoology graduate, shared this news on social media, expressing his sadness over the cancellation of the wedding scheduled for later in the month. The couple had been together for three years but had not prioritized genotype testing, assuming there wouldn’t be any issues. Despite some family members encouraging them to proceed with the wedding, Ibrahim and his fiancée decided against it due to the potential health risks for their future children. Their decision received support from friends on social media who praised their courage. Ibrahim ended his post by asking for prayers and understanding during this difficult time, emphasizing the importance of genotype testing in relationships.
