An organization known as Super Parents Foundation recently conducted a charitable event where they provided free medical checkups, therapy, and essential supplies to individuals living with disabilities, specifically focusing on children with Down Syndrome.
The event, which took place in collaboration with Silkin Hospital in Oke-Ira, Ogba, Lagos State, also involved the distribution of food items, diapers, and clothing to families in need.
During the event, the founder of the foundation, Mofoluwasho Liasu, emphasized the organization’s commitment to assisting parents of children with disabilities.
Liasu mentioned, “Managing disability in Nigeria, and Africa at large, is a challenging and costly task. Moreover, the societal stigma associated with disabilities adds to the emotional strain on parents, underscoring the importance of support groups like ours in alleviating their burdens.”
“By organizing such initiatives, we aim to enhance parents’ understanding of disabilities and the unique needs of their children,” she added.
The National Coordinator of the foundation, Oluwatolase Olorunnihi, addressed the beneficiaries, outlining the organization’s objective of creating a supportive network for parents facing similar obstacles.
In testimonials shared during the event, some beneficiaries expressed their appreciation and recounted their personal experiences.
One mother, Mariam Adeyemi, whose two-year-old child has Down Syndrome, described the initial challenges she encountered upon receiving the diagnosis.
“Discovering my child’s condition was overwhelming, but I have come to terms with it. I am grateful to the Super Parents Foundation for instilling hope in me and showing me that I am not alone.”
Another parent, Mrs. Charity Madubike, shared her emotional journey of raising her 19-year-old son with Down Syndrome, recalling the early signs she observed.
“It has been a tough experience, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. However, my faith has kept me strong, and I remain hopeful,” she remarked.
