A heartwarming gesture was shown by the 2004 set of Command Day Secondary School in Ojo, Lagos State as they marked their 20th anniversary by covering examination fees for some students and presenting gifts to former teachers.
The event took place at the school premises in the military cantonment, Ojo Barracks, on December 4, with alumni, school management, and students from various classes in attendance.
The association’s president, Oyedoyin Oke-Oladipo, explained that the aim was to give back to the school that had a significant impact on their lives.
Oke-Oladipo mentioned that the sponsorship included covering the costs for the West African Examinations Council and National Examinations Council exams to ease financial burdens on students and their families in the current economic climate.
The plan includes extending the sponsorship to university level and establishing a mentorship program to guide students in various industries, given the ever-evolving career landscape.
Beneficiaries like Chukwuebuka Uju expressed gratitude, noting that the support would motivate them to excel academically, with aspirations to become a civil engineer.
Another beneficiary, Chisom Okpala, shared how the sponsorship would assist students from underprivileged backgrounds, inspiring them to aim high in their academic pursuits, like her ambition to study medicine and surgery.
In honoring their former teachers, the 2024 reunion committee chairperson, Chizoba Okpara, emphasized the importance of recognizing the educators who had a significant influence on their lives.
The school management expressed appreciation for the alumni’s efforts, acknowledging that such contributions would serve as an inspiration for future generations at Command Day Secondary School.
