It’s time to end Gaza war, says US

The United States called for the finalization of a deal between Israel and Hamas to end the Gaza war, despite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s refusal to make concessions. US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller stated that Washington, along with Egypt and Qatar, would work towards pushing for a final agreement in the coming days.

Following Netanyahu’s rejection of concessions in negotiations with Hamas, the US unsealed terrorism charges against six Hamas leaders linked to an attack on Israel that initiated the conflict in Gaza. The charges included Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar and his predecessor Ismail Haniyeh.

There have been calls for an independent investigation into reports that six captives recovered dead from Gaza were summarily executed. Despite pressure from Israelis demanding the return of hostages alive, Netanyahu has remained firm in his stance.

Israel aims to maintain control of the Philadelphi Corridor along the Gaza-Egypt border to prevent Hamas from rearming, a move that has faced criticism from Egypt and Saudi Arabia. US President Joe Biden expressed doubt regarding Netanyahu’s efforts to secure a hostage deal.

Hamas continues to demand an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, while Israel has expressed intentions to maintain a military presence. The conflict has led to international repercussions, with Britain suspending arms exports to Israel due to concerns over humanitarian law violations.

The situation remains dire, with ongoing violence in Gaza and Israeli raids in the West Bank. The conflict has resulted in significant casualties and destruction, prompting humanitarian concerns and vaccination efforts amid the devastation.
