JUST IN: Ajaero’s arrest, a bid to silence our voice- NLC

The Nigeria Labour Congress expressed strong disapproval of the arrest of its president, who was taken into custody by officers from the Department of State Services while en route to the United Kingdom. The union criticized the detention, stating that it was done without a legal warrant or formal document, labeling it as an act of lawlessness and intimidation. The whereabouts of the president were unknown, as efforts to reach him proved unsuccessful. The union condemned the detention as an attempt to stifle dissenting voices in the country. They called for the immediate release of their president and urged the international community and human rights organizations to take note of the authoritarian actions in Nigeria. The NLC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting workers’ rights and demanded the cessation of harassment against labor leaders and citizens with differing opinions. The union also demanded the release of all Nigerians imprisoned for participating in protests against governance issues. They disclosed that the Congress was in a closed-door meeting to address the situation.
