The administration of the University of Benin has provided an update on the building collapse incident at Ekosodin, stating that no lives were lost and three trapped students have been rescued. The rescued students are currently receiving medical care in the hospital, while efforts to locate others are ongoing.
The collapse occurred due to heavy rainfall, but prompt action by the university’s rescue team, including staff from various departments and the police, ensured the safe extraction of the trapped students. The injured individuals were swiftly taken to the hospital for treatment.
Ekosodin, a community near the University of Benin with a significant student population, witnessed the incident. The university’s Dean of Students was present at the scene, coordinating rescue operations with the team. The State Fire Service also dispatched trucks to assist in the rescue efforts.
The Edo State Police Command confirmed the incident, emphasizing that rescue operations were still in progress, and details on any casualties would be provided once the operation is completed. The combined efforts of the rescue teams are ongoing to ensure the safety and well-being of all affected individuals.
