Ajayi Crowther varsity VC laments funding challenges in tertiary institutions

The Vice Chancellor of a prominent university in Oyo State highlighted the significant issue of inadequate funding as a major obstacle to education in Nigeria. He emphasized that the challenge of insufficient funding affects both private and public universities, leading to increased tuition fees and financial struggles for institutions to provide necessary infrastructure and equipment for educational development. While acknowledging some support from organizations like the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, he expressed concerns about the effectiveness of fund disbursement and its impact on education. The Vice Chancellor also mentioned the university’s academic and structural progress, including plans to introduce a Distance Learning Programme to enhance access to education. Additionally, he detailed the addition of 29 new physical facilities and exchange programs with various institutions as part of efforts to improve the university’s offerings. The upcoming convocation ceremony is expected to award certificates to numerous individuals, including 86 undergraduates in the first-class category.
