The Presidential Amnesty Programme has affirmed its commitment to supporting the Defence Headquarters Joint Monitoring Team in its efforts to combat crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta region. The PAP Administrator, Dr. Dennis Otuaro, conveyed this during a courtesy visit by the joint monitoring team led by Major General Jamil Jimoh at the PAP Office in Abuja.
Otuaro emphasized the importance of assisting the joint monitoring team in addressing illegal oil bunkering and safeguarding critical oil assets. He expressed satisfaction with the country’s increased oil production output, reaching 1.8 million barrels per day, attributing it to the intensified fight against crude thieves and pipeline vandals. Otuaro also highlighted the program’s focus on national and human security, pledging collaboration to eliminate oil bunkering in the Niger Delta.
Furthermore, Otuaro underscored the PAP’s efforts in implementing the reintegration phase of the program through various initiatives such as formal education, vocational training, and post-training empowerment for delegates, beneficiaries, and women. He mentioned the need for additional funding to effectively manage the program’s expansion in the interest of national security and stability.
Major General Jamil Jimoh, leader of the monitoring team, sought the PAP’s support to enhance their operations and commended Otuaro for his dedication to promoting lasting peace and stability in the Niger Delta. Jimoh acknowledged Otuaro’s expertise in the region as invaluable for maintaining peace and stability.
The visit by the joint monitoring team aimed to engage with stakeholders in the Niger Delta region. Jimoh highlighted the importance of collaborating with the PAP, recognizing its role in bringing peace to the area. He praised Otuaro’s knowledge and efforts in facilitating peace and stability, emphasizing the significance of seeking guidance from him and his team.
